The Elevador de Santa Justa - old, weird and wonderful
I really wanted to see what the Elevador de Santa Justa look like in the flesh when I came to Lisbon, because I had read a lot about it before I arrived. It really is quite weird and very quirky indeed. It is this kind of Gothic lift that is nearby 50 metres high. It was built in 1902. I climbed into the lift and was taken up to the top - a bit clanky - and then climbed up a small staircase to see the views from the cafe. We didn't need a return ticket, because we just walked across the walkway to the Chiado area.

Some day trips from Lisbon
If you want to take some day trips when in Lisbon, I can recommend some good places to visit. Cascais is a very beautiful town close by. Also consider Estoril and Sintra. If you want to see these places, then it is a good idea to hire a car.

Must see: The Casa do Alentejo
Don't miss out the Casa do Alentejo. It is between the city and the Algarve, and is a popular meeting place. Concerts are often held here.

Go to Belém
Belém is very near to the city centre and has some good attractions, such as the Torre de Belém.
